Case Studies
1. Sometimes, an internal policy is not enough...
Many organizations struggle with triggering behavioral change. Meetings are held, policies are created, but a material change in employee behavior never materializes. Senior leaders may wring their hands over what to do next.
Business Problem
In this example, a regulated organization requires employees to declare potential conflicts of interest. A policy was instituted, but no one came forward to declare potential relationships which may expose the business to risk.
Solution
In this learning solution, conflict of interest was defined via a series of relevant scenarios. Each scenario was paired with a call to action to report potential conflicts of interest. A word scramble content spelling out "Ethics", was also embedded across the scenarios to boost engagement and ensure the employees read each scenario. By the end of the campaign, 150 employees had participated in the contest and conflict of interest reports tripled.
2. Automate training at the point of need....
The most effective training occurs at “the point of need”, in other words, delivering relevant content when people need it. Traditional training requires both a lot of prep time and work. By the time a course is developed and delivered, “the point of need” can be lost, making the training ineffective.
Business Problem
At this company, there was an uncomfortable volume of successful phishing attacks. Criminals, posing as internal employees, sent emails capturing sensitive company data by luring employees to click suspicious links. The IT department jumped into action, deployed memos, and delivered training. However, even after their best efforts, employees still clicked the suspicious links. The real problem was that the training was not being deployed at the point of need — at the employee's computer while reading emails.
Solution
Mock phishing emails were created and deployed over a pre-determined time frame. When the employee clicked the mock phishing email, they were redirected to a company warning email. The email required the employee to complete a two-minute online training in real-time. The phishing click rate dropped from 22% to 4% within the first month. One of the latent benefits of this campaign for our client was that it required almost no FTE hours to maintain. Thus, freeing our client to focus their energy on their business and not their security.
